At TAFE NSW, we support students from non-English speaking and multicultural backgrounds. We are committed to helping you start your education and succeed with a range of services.
Interpreters and translation
To call us with an interpreter, phone the National Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450. Ask them to connect you to 131 601.
If you need a face-to-face interpreter, call 02 8255 6767 for assistance.
For translated documents, contact Multicultural Services NSW.
Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) Coordinators

Support programs
Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
AMEP can help you learn English, and provide free English lessons and childcare to eligible migrants and refugees. If you need assistance with this program, call 1800 114 707.
Skills for Education and Employment (SEE)
The SEE program helps improve your reading, writing, maths and digital skills to increase your employment opportunities. The course is free if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Skilled Migrant Employment Program (SMEP)
SMEP, previously Skillmax, is a pathways course for skilled overseas professionals preparing for the Australian job market. The course is free if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Other services
Validation of Overseas Qualifications (VoOS)
At TAFE NSW, we provide Validation of Overseas Qualifications (VoOS) by assessing your qualifications against the Country Education Profile (CEP) database. Through this process, you’ll receive a letter confirming the equivalent Australian qualification level, along with a referral for recognition or gap training if required.
Recognition and credit transfer
We also recognise overseas qualifications and prior learning, acknowledging the skills and knowledge you have gained through work, volunteering or previous study. This recognition can take place through recognition of prior learning (RPL) or credit transfer.
