AMEP Volunteer Tutor Program

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs, the Volunteer Tutor Program is an Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) sub-program offering informal language tuition by trained volunteers to migrants and refugees, online or face-to-face.

The process to become a volunteer tutor involves five stages:

1. Preparation - Gathering your documentation to upload into your application.
2. Application - Completing your application and uploading documentation via Better Impact (our volunteer management system).
3. Interview - Once your application and documentation have been processed, we will arrange a 15 minute telephone interview, at a time to suit you.
4. Training - You will complete a 15-hour online tutor training program, that is self-paced to suit your needs.
5. Matching - We will start working on matching you to a student in your local area.

Your application

Please ensure that you have all of the following documentation ready before you start your application. This will ensure a quicker transition to commence volunteer tutoring.

1. Working with Children Check document (WWCC) including the registration number an expiry date.
2. Photo of you holding your photo ID, either a drivers license or passport. How to hold your photo ID.
3. Criminal Consent Form - Click here to Download and Complete.
4. Proof of identification. This is required to conduct a Criminal Record Check on your behalf. Proof of identification documents are not kept by TAFE NSW and will be destroyed. Examples of required documents can be found here: Identity Document List.

   1. 1 x Commencement Document, e.g. Australian passport, birth certificate issued by an Australian state or territory.
   2. 1 x Primary Document, e.g. Australian Driver’s License (front and rear), Australian proof of age card.
   3. 2 x Secondary Document, e.g. Medicare card (front and rear), Enrolment with the Australian Electoral Commission
