Develop the qualities you need to get ahead in this industry:
The concept of beauty has been evolving over the last few years. Rather than a physical ‘look’ with specific criteria, beauty is broadening to include more people, of all shapes, sizes and ages. It is also becoming entwined with our sense of wellbeing, wellness and health.
This consumer link between beauty and wellness has led to strong growth in the industry, with annual growth of 6.4% between 2015 and 2017, almost twice the rate of global economic growth (3.6%) over the same period.
For more and more people, wellness is moving from an occasional indulgence to an essential activity and dominant lifestyle value. This profound shift is driving powerful growth.
In 2017, the global wellness industry (including beauty and spa services) reached AUD $5.8 trillion in revenue, with significant growth both in the number of salons and spas in operation and people employed in the industry. The hotel/resort spa category contributed the largest number of spas and revenue during the 2015-2017 period, surpassing day/salon spas as the industry’s revenue leader.
